What should RCB do right now to Qualify for the Playoffs of IPL 2019

The only way Royal Challengers Bangalore can show their respect and gratitude towards their loyal fans, is by making the Wild chant- "Ee Sala Cup Namde" become reality.

The only way Royal Challengers Bangalore can show their respect and gratitude towards their loyal fans, is by making the Wild chant- “Ee Sala Cup Namde” become reality. That happens only by winning their maiden IPL Tournament this year. In order to win this tournament, they first need to qualify for the Playoffs. And it all boils down back to the title, ” What should RCB do right now to Qualify for the Playoffs of IPL 2019?”

Current Scenario

Having lost their first 6 matches, RCB bounced back securing their first win against KXIP in a descent way. From now on, RCB should win all their remaining 7 matches to Qualify for the playoffs. And they should do so, with a better run-rate. So to win all the remaining matches, they should first have good knowledge about their own fortress – The Bangalore Home ground. As everyone know, Bangalore Stadium is so small in its boundaries and that is the main reason for the franchise to opt for star studded batsmen instead of bowlers. While looking at the Bangalore pitch, the main two pitches played here are either low spin, or high spin. This means that the high spin pitch offers a 160+ score per innings and the low spin pitch offers a 200+ score per innings. Seam and bounce aren’t a factor in this pitch because the boundaries are so short that even if you edge a 135 kmph ball, it would definitely go for a six . So, in both the variants of the pitch, only a smart spinner can survive defending those boundaries. And that is why Chahal has deep roots in this stadium, because of his intelligence in bowling variations.  Looking into the Playing 11, Chahal should definitely be in the team as their quality spinner.

Opinion: Changes to be made to the Playing 11

Now looking into the fast bowlers, Navdeep Saini and Dale Steyn should be in the team for their fierce pace and ball control. Umesh Yadav also has pace, but the lack of ball control makes Kohli to use him more in the power play rather in the death overs. Now moving to the all-rounders, Marcus Stoinis and Moeen Ali are the two perfect all-rounders for RCB, because of their six hitting ability and descent bowling.

Moeen Ali  has a confirm spot in the team as he can be used as a second spinner with Chahal in case of foreign batsmen (who lack the ability to play spin). Shivam Dubey is a young talent who would hit sixes as well as bowl few descent medium seam overs. And looking at their batting, there is no doubt on top three. Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli should definitely open the innings with AB de Villiers as one down.

Finally the playing 11 for RCB from now on should be Parthiv Patel (wk), Virat Kohli (c), De Villiers, Stoinis, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dubey, Chahal, Steyn, Siraj, Saini and Umesh Yadav. All bases are covered in this team with a batting depth till Dubey and 5 Quality bowlers with three all-rounders. RCB should keep this squad constant In their next 7 matches to gain the Confidence the team needs. In case of Away matches, Negi can play in place of Umesh Yadav if it is a spin track,  adding one more player in the all-rounders list. If RCB uses this squad with quality fielding, they can win their next two matches therefore getting the necessary momentum to win their remaining 5 matches and eventually qualify for the playoffs!
