Who will be the champion?

Who will win the Champions League this season?

After a breath-taking quarter-final, we have only four teams left in this season’s most prestigious European club tournament. Liverpool was in the finals last year and Barcelona is reaching the last four for the first time in 4 years. The final two are Tottenham Hotspurs and Ajax, well who would have expected that. With this being said, let’s have a look at the two draws for the semi-finals.

Barcelona vs Liverpool

Barcelona is hands down the favorite to lift the trophy, and why not, considering the form of Lionel Messi. The Catalan Giants eased past Manchester United with a 4-0 aggregate win.

Meanwhile, Liverpool destroyed Porto 6-1 on aggregate over the two legs and book their place in the champions league semifinal, for the second year in a row. Liverpool is considered a complete team. They are defensively solid and posses a lot of threats going forward.

The battle between Messi and Virgil Van Dijk will be an interesting one. Van Dijk is a player that no one has dribbled past this season. On the other hand, Messi has the most take-ons in the competitions. These two players will be most crucial for their teams if they want to move forward in the tournament.

Tottenham vs Ajax

Well, who would have thought this will happen. Two teams that most people thought won’t make out of the group stage are in the semi-finals of the champions league.

Tottenham made it to the semi-finals after defeating the tournament favorites Manchester City on away goals. But the absence of their star striker Harry Kane would be a problem for them.

Ajax, on the other hand, is the team that plays like champions. The young team has an average age of 23 years, and to be in the champions league semi-finals is an achievement on its own. They defeated the defending champions Real Madrid in the round of 16 and Juventus in the quarter-finals.

The duo of Frankie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt will be crucial for Ajax whereas Son Heung-min will play a vital role for Tottenham.

Barcelona will lock horns with Liverpool on May 2, 12.30 AM IST at the Camp Nou, while the second leg is scheduled a week later on May 8, 12.30 am IST at Anfield.

In the other semi-final, Ajax will take on Tottenham on May 1, 12.30 am IST in London, while the return leg will be held at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on May 9, 12.30 AM IST.

The winners of the semi-finals will face off in the all-important final at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on the 1st of June.
