Have you ever wondered about an end semester exam, where the questions being asked are about cricket! Cricket fans would love such a question paper and dream about it. But it actually happened in IIT Madras, when professor Vignesh has asked a question about the Qualifier 1 match between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings.
About the Qualifier 1
The Qualifier 1 is the first playoff match in the IPL, where the top two teams from the league play against each other for a spot in the tournament Finals. The loser of this match gets an extra chance to reach the finals by playing another match – the Qualifier 2. The Qualifier 2 is played between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator match (which is played between the Third and Fourth-placed teams in the points table). The Winner of the Qualifier 2 will face the winner of the Qualifier 1 in the Finals. The Qualifier 1 is scheduled on May 7th at Chepauk Stadium, Chennai. The match will be played between the table topper Mumbai Indians and second-placed Chennai Super Kings at 7:30 pm.
End semester exam question
Professor Vignesh from IIT Madras has asked a Question in the end semester exam for the subject “Material and Energy Balances”. The question got so much popularity on Twitter because it was regarding Cricket. It became so popular that even the International Cricket Council (ICC) has tweeted about it. The question was about the effect of Dew during the Qualifier 1 match between MI and CSK. He has given the conditions of the stadium before and after the first innings. He has then asked the students to tell what MS Dhoni should do if he wins the toss.
Though the conditions given in the question were incorrect, the motive of the question was met by the professor. The main aim of the question was to make the students think whether the ground would be wet during the first innings or during the second innings with the data provided. But the idea of the professor to ask related to the Qualifier 1 to make it interesting for the students really is nice. What will MS Dhoni do tonight after winning the toss? And what is the answer to this question?
