Google recently announced the latest offerings to the Pixel line at their Google I/O conference –  the Pixel 3A and the Pixel 3A XL.

The Pixel 3A starts at $399, while its bigger brother starts at $479. The biggest highlight of these phones are the cameras that they offer at such a price point. Many reviewers have tested the cameras to be almost indistinguishable from the more expensive, premium Pixel 3 series.

The Pixel 3A is made out of cheaper materials, has a slower processor, and does not include wireless charging or water resistance.

The phone also misses the amazing stereo speakers of the Pixel 3.

The phones do offer a 3.5mm headphone jack however, which is a very welcome addition.

The display on the Pixel 3A is still an OLED panel, with no notches on both the models. An iFixit teardown of the phone revealed the display being made by Samsung.

The phone comes in three colors: black, white and “purple-ish.”

Pixel 3A Camera

The most important thing that people will look for in a budget Google Pixel phone will be the cameras. The Google Pixel series has been very famous for its amazing stills and night mode capabilities.

Many tech reviewers that received the phone have noted that there is little to no difference between the camera on the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3A. There are hardware differences however, which will lead to different image processing speeds and choices. The end results still remain virtually the same.

Should you buy this phone?

In the end, it all depends on what you are going to use the phone for. The Pixel 3A is not meant to be cheap flagship. It is meant to be a budget phone with a flagship camera.

If you love to take pictures and only want to spend $500, the Pixel 3 is the perfect phone for you. The images that come out of it are nearly as good as the $900-1000 phones of the world.

The Snapdragon 670 processor is fast enough to get you through all the top games and good usage. The regular and immediate Google software updates are a huge advantage with Pixel phones. The android experience is also much more nicer compared to other android skins.

It might be the best budget smartphone, with a very premium camera.
