Sunday finally saw the end of one of the biggest episodic TV of this century. After eight years, eight seasons and several dozens of hours the epic fantasy drama saw its conclusion.
The eighth season of the show has been quite controversial and not well received by the fans. This is majorly due to its fast pace and abrupt ending to many of the shows longest running and most important plots. This is encapsulated best by the fifth episode, The Bells which included the deaths of Cersei and Jamie Lannister as well as Daenerys Targaryen’s descent into Mad Queendom.
The backlash was such that it led to over a million fans signing a petition to have the season remade.
Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark in the show, called the backlash and the petition disrespectful. Here is what she had to say in an interview with the New York Times-
“All of these petitions and things like that - I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season, Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”Sophie Turner
Pedro Pascal, who played the role of Oberyn Martell also came to the rescue of the show makers, he tweeted immediately after the divisive finale, “Shut up, it was perfect.”
But it was Kit Harington, who played the role of Jon Snow on the show who had the most strongly worded response to the backlash. He was ‘quite defiant’ about defending the final season of the show. Here is what he told The Esquire-
“Because I know how much work was put into this. Whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their judgment on it, in my head they can go f**k themselves.”Kit Harington
