On Friday, a gunman in Virginia Beach opened fire in the municipal center, killing at least 12 people, as confirmed by the police. This has been described as one of the deadliest shootings this year. Many more were injured, and 4 people are in critical conditions as per reports. The suspect behind the attack was later identified as DeWayne Craddock, 40, a public utilities employee.
After 4 p.m.(ET) at the end of the workday, the gunman walked into the public works department and started shooting “indiscriminately” at all the victims. He opened fire at all three floors of the building except for the basement. As a result, at least 12 people were killed on spot, others injured, 4 people critically injured – including a policeman who was saved by his bullet-proof vest. Later the suspect was engaged in a long shootout with the police in which he was fatally wounded. Virginia Beach Chief of Police Cervera said these officers “stopped this individual from committing more carnage.”
