Just before WWDC 2019, Samsung has announced 2 new laptops, the Notebook 7 and the Notebook 7 Force. The Force is only available in 15-inch size and behaves as the more powerful variant of the 15-inch Notebook 7.

The design of the new Notebook 7 series bears very close resemblance to Apple’s MacBook line, which seems to be what Samsung was aiming for.

One could say that Samsung’s new laptops are just MacBooks with more ports.

Notebook 7: 13-inch vs 15-inch

The 13-inch variant bears the closest resemblance to the MacBook, with its design, keyboard layout, trackpad allignment, and its lid-opening notch on the front. Both sizes feature a blue button on the keyboard, which seems to be a fingerprint scanner.

The 15-inch model takes away the MacBook illusion, with its off-center trackpad and its number pad on the right of the keyboard.

Both laptops feature 1080p displays with a 720p/dual array microphone front camera. The laptops are powered by 8th generation Intel processors paired with up to 16GB RAM and upto 512GB SSD storage. The 15-inch variant with the Nvidia dGPU, however, offers another storage slot for an NVMe SSD.

The laptops also feature Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, and all variants are equipped with 55Wh batteries. This is not a worry though, as these seem to be pretty power efficient laptops. The keyboards are backlit, and again, bear close resemblance to Apple’s MacBook keyboard.

The NoteBook 7 Force

As mentioned earlier, the Notebook 7 Force is simply a more powerful, heavier variant of the Notebook 7 15-inch. It holds the GTX 1650 (a pretty beefy graphics card for a normal laptop), and starts at 16GB of RAM. The highlight is that the Nvidia GTX 1650 is a pretty power-efficient GPU so again, even the Force is expected to have decent battery life.

The only drawback regarding the battery life is that the Force has a smaller, 43Wh battery. It is still expected to perform decently, however. Especially for those Adobe CC and mild gamers, this laptop is expected to be a pretty good balance between power and battery.

Ports

All the laptops in the Notebook 7 series feature the following ports:

  • USB-C x 1
  • USB 3.0 x 2
  • HDMI
  • Micro SD
  • Headphone/mic jack
The Notebook 7 Force additionally features an Ethernet port, and a security slot.

Pricing

The Notebook 7 is set to start at $999, with the Force coming in at $1499. The specs look pretty solid for the price, and the value for money is coming close into Matebook X territory. We could say that Samsung finally has a solid competitor in the ultra-thin segment.

The laptops will be available to pre-order on July 12, and ship on July 26.
