New information regarding the upcoming Tesla Pickup Truck has been revealed, thanks to some comments from Elon Musk. Some details regarding the vehicle is already known, such as the AWD dual motor powertrain, options for 400-500 mile range, dynamic suspension, and “300,00 lbs towing capacity.”
Pricing of the Pickup Truck
While speaking on a podcast (Ride the Lightning), Elon Musk commented on the pricing of the upcoming electric pickup truck.
I think it got to start at less than $50,000 – it’s got to be like $49,000 starting price max. Ideally less. It just can’t be unaffordable. It’s got to be something that’s affordable.
This pricing means that Tesla will be severely undercutting the upcoming Rivian Electric pickup truck, R1T, which is currently available to pre-order at a base price of $69,000.
This could mean trouble for Tesla’s “competition.”
Design of the Pickup Truck
Based on the teaser image that Elon Musk confirmed to be the front, the design is building up to be really unique. We can expect a very futuristic design.
It’s got to have incredible functionally from a load carrying standpoint, look amazing – but it won’t look like a normal truck. It’s going to look pretty sci-fi.
Elon Musk said that it would be a “blade runner” like design. Many people have begun rendering what they think the vehicle would look like. Elon Musk added that many won’t think it looks like a truck, further building up anticipation for the obviously uniquely designed vehicle.
It’s going to be a truck that is more capable than other trucks. The goal is to be a better truck than a [Ford] F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality and be a better sports car than a standard [Porsche] 911. That’s the aspiration.
It seems as though this might be Tesla’s most compelling and unique vehicle, second to only the upcoming 2020 Roadster. Based on what Elon tweets, it seems as though even he cannot wait for the vehicle to hit the market.
We probably will see a version of the vehicle very soon. Based on the facts, it is gearing up to be one of the most anticipated Tesla vehicles ever.
