Los Angeles is taking the green and electric revolution very seriously. The Zero Emission Plan 2028 was launched in November 2019. The plan aims to reduce air 25% air pollution in the city reduction by the end of 2028. The government, along with green technology leaders, are working on it and are planning to implement many steps regarding the Zero Emission Plan.
Zero Emission Plan
The government is planning to buy more all-electric public transport vehicles and aims to replace all combustion engine vehicles with EVs. By the end of 2028, at least 80% of all available commercial vehicle sales will be electric vehicles. Also, the government will try to convert gasoline taxis to all-electric taxis. Uber and Lyft are on the list to go electric.
Contribution from Uber
For this, taxi companies like Uber are offering special compensation to encourage drivers to go for an EV rather than gasoline vehicles. The driver will get an extra dollar for each ride using a hybrid or an all-electric taxi. It is a part of the “Pilot Program” launched by Uber to encourage and spread awareness regarding the use of electric vehicles.
The Pilot Program was initially started in seven cities, including San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Seattle, Montreal, and Austin. Also, Uber joining hands with many charging firms like EVGo will increase charging facilities for the electric taxis. Although the plan will take time, it is good that it has been initiated. Now we hope that other American cities get inspiration from LA, and take stronger steps regarding spreading awareness for the same.
