Video evidence appears to show Iranian missile striking Ukrainian Flight 752

A new video obtained by CNN appears to show a missile soaring in Tehran before exploding. This suggests that the missile hit an object, possibly Flight 752, as it crashed around the same time the missile was launched.

Flight 752 came crashing to the ground just minutes after take-off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport. The aircraft was a Boeing 737-800 and all 176 people on-board were killed in the crash.

International Reaction

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canadian intelligence shows that the Ukranian passenger aircraft was shot down by an Iranian missile. He also said that Britain, and intelligence provided by other allies of Canada, corroborate the evidence. Flight 752 was carrying 63 citizens of Canada, making the investigation into the crash especially important for the country.

This may have been unintentional.

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that British intelligence had also reached the same conclusion. He also said, “There is now a body of information that the flight was shot down by an Iranian Surface to Air Missile. This may well have been unintentional. We are working closely with Canada and our international partners and there now needs to be a full, transparent investigation. The UK continues to call on all sides urgently to deescalate to reduce tensions in the region.”

The US has believed that Iran shot down the plane from the start. Donald Trump did say that it might have been accidental, as data based on satellites and radar analyzed by US intelligence points to Iran’s missile being the cause of the crash of the airliner.

Somebody could have made a mistake on the other side …not our system. It has nothing to do with us.

The black boxes of the plane were damaged and are currently in the possession of the Iranian government. Though Iran had “refused to hand over the boxes,” the head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Authority told CNN that they are working with Ukranian aviation experts. Iran needs some assistance decoding the black boxes, and the Ukrainians are expected to be working with them. It is still unusual that Iran did not hand over the boxes to Boeing. However, the investigation is being conducted by Iran while following all international agreements.
