Qualcomm is still focusing on 4G amid the “5G craze”

Almost all telecommunication companies and mobile companies think that 5G will hit the expected boom this year, and are investing more and more in that developing 5G technology.  Amid this 5G craze, are 4G or  3G users suffering and missing out on the good features? It is safe to say that not all companies have given up on bringing features to 4G chipsets.

Recently during its India launch, Qualcomm gave 4G devices three new mobile platforms. These are Snapdragon 720G, 662, and 460. What is interesting is that all of these have the support of Wifi 6 and NavIC (India’s satellite positioning system).

The 720G is an octa-core chipset and is planned to be fit into the high-end devices, although it is not as good as the flagship 855 and 855+. The “G in the name represents how it plans to integrate on gaming, so a 10bit HDR and measures to stop cheating in games are expected. It also lets you record in 4K quality and display resolutions as high as 2520×1080. Also, it allows download speed as fast as 800 Mbps.

The Snapdragon 662 is like a smaller brother of the 720G. It also comes with an octa-core, but that has a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz while the 720G has 2.3 GHz. What’s new in this chipset is that it allows smooth and easy transitions in the triple camera devices and also lets you store them very efficiently in the HIEF format(High-efficiency image format), which also saves your space.

The Snapdragon 460 uses the same modem as the 662, but it has better and improved GPU and performance cores. This means that it is 50 percent faster than its predecessor Snapdragon 450.

Though the future of 5G is exciting, technological limitations are only allowing the slow rollout of the cutting-edge communication frequency. Therefore, only wealthier cities receive 5G while the others have to wait for years. This step taken by Qualcomm to continue to develop the latest tech for its 4G consumers is definitely going to make its users happy and satisfied until 5G becomes mainstream.
