Indian U-19 Cricket: Nowadays, cricket has become more popular when compared to other forms of sports. It is getting easier for players to get into the limelight as various tournaments are being held across the world across the year. Especially in India, youngsters are getting a hand full of chances to prove their talent and get name and fame for the country.
Domestic tournaments like the IPL (biggest platform for youngsters to prove their worth) are encouraging people to choose cricket as their profession. But no matter how many opportunities are provided, one should have a passion for the game and dedication towards the team in order to grab the chances and perform well. One such example is Yashasvi, Man of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup.
Jai Jai ‘Jaiswal’
In the recently concluded ICC Under 19 ODI Cricket World Cup, dashing Indian opener, Jaiswal won the Player of the Tournament for his dream run throughout the tournament. He gave good starts to his due to which India raced to finals without even a single defeat right from the start of the tournament. Even in the finals, Yashasvi played his part by adding a valuable 88 runs to the board. One bad outing of the rest of his teammates has cost India this match as India lost its last 7 wickets for less than 25 runs.
Story of a youngster hailing from a poor family
Yashasvi had a horrible childhood. Hailing from an economically backward family in Uttar Pradesh, he had to run away from his home to live in his passion for life – cricket. He used to sell Pani Puri and sleep under a tent during nights. “I’d heard a lot about how Sachin sir and Wasim sir excelled in Mumbai. So I wanted to come here and do the same,” he said when he was asked on why decided to go to Mumbai. Jwala Singh, a cricket coach, saw the raw talent in Jaiswal and decided to train him, which turns out to be a life-turning moment of his life. He is one such player who loves to play long innings. He already has a double century to his name in List-A cricket.

Jaiswal soon got selected to the U-19 team, where he accounted for a mountain of runs under his name. Prodigy’s life changed when Rajasthan Royals spent 2.4 crores to buy him. Even Jaiswal would not have expected such a huge amount as he was drafted for a base price of twenty lakhs under the uncapped category. Jaiswal made sure that if one remembers 2020 U-19 WC, then one must remind of his performances. He piled up 400 runs at an average of 133.33, which shows his talent. Being an opener, maintaining a 100+ average is not an easy task but also next to an impossible task which Jaiswal completed with the utmost ease.
He ended the tournament with 4 half-centuries and a lone century to his name during his 6 outings, which were not sufficient for India to lift the trophy. If he continues his golden run in IPL also, it is just a matter of time to see him in Blues of Senior Team. Watching his aggression on the field and composure off the field, one can easily say that this lad has a bright future and might be the next big thing in Indian Cricket.
