Timex releases $120 smartwatch with 25 days of battery

Timex is bringing a new watch to its Ironman GPS tracker series with a whopping 25 days of battery life. It’s been christened as the Ironman R300 and is available for $120 on Timex’s website.

Timex’s Ironman watch.

Advertising it as their first smartwatch, the R300 boasts some impressive features. According to timex.com, the watch has accurate, onboard GPS, activity tracking, and is water-resistant up to 30 meters. On their website, Timex puts special stock into the training programs. They say that these are created by “top athletes and coaches.” The watch sports 25 days of battery life if users choose not to adopt the GPS capability, which shortens the battery life to 20 hours. This is still impressive, seeing as a phone is not needed to use the GPS.

Despite how Timex is advertising the R300 as their first smartwatch, they have released similar fitness trackers in the past. These were capable of touchscreen input, GPS, receiving phone calls, and distance tracking, so if the watch’s price seems steep, Timex has wallet-friendly alternatives available. However, if the R300 is good, it’s a good alternative to much more expensive watches on the market.
