BMW has finally revealed the much-awaited concept of the BMW i4. The Concept i4 is most probably going for production in 2021. Earlier, the BMW was going to reveal the concept in the Geneva Motor show 2020, but due to the spread of coronavirus, the show got canceled. Hence, the German company took to the online platform to showcase the BMW i4.
There were many speculations after November 2019 when the company first gave a hint about the new-generation electric vehicle from their side. From the first look, the concept looks monstrous and appealing. It can be seen as the mix of earlier variants i3 and i8. BMW i4 is a purely electric four-seater sedan with a sporty look. The company claims a range of 217 miles in one full charge (going up to 373), which in comparison is more than Porsche Taycan, and much less than Hyundai Kona.
The German manufacturers are confident about their fifth-generation electric powertrain and claims that it is capable of producing power at par with their best V8 engine. Other components in the power train include 80 kWh lithium-ion battery capable of producing more than 500 bhp and a tremendous amount of torque. In comparison, Porsche Taycon uses 94 kWh battery but still gives less range than the BMW i4. Whereas the small crossover Hyundai Kona has a smaller 64 kWh battery, but still gives 270 miles, which is much higher than the i4.
Now let us take a look at its muscular exterior. The large front kidney grille portrays the stance correctly. The two big LED headlamps complete the front nose, and overall it looks more masculine and dominant. The sharp sloping curve roof, with the B pillar supporting the lining, looking perfect. The thought of replacing the roof with glass makes the interior of the EV much airier and looks open.
The interior is the combination of the BMW i3 and the BMW i8. With futuristic technologies and a much spacious cabin, it is a perfect place to be inside. The curve display in the front covers the driver’s as well as the side passenger’s view. At the rear, there are full-size seats with comfortable and aesthetically pleasing material. The interior looks much more spacious and open because of the glass roof.
Now we have to wait for the actual launch of the BMW Concept i4 next year. Most probably, there will be some additional features in the EV than what we know currently. BMW is now ready to give direct competition to Tesla, and it seems that the i4 can be the one.
