According to a report from The Information, Apple is testing a keyboard accessory with a trackpad for its iPads. They are planning to present it with the new lineup of Apple tablets this year. This would enable Apple to be a more direct competitor to Microsoft’s Surface Pros. Apple’s iPads have sold well overall, but many power users complain that the iPad system isn’t great for more heavy-duty jobs. Thus these complaints used as a basis for the new iPadOS changes. These included multitasking features and file management.
Apple had introduced a mouse pointer in iPadOS, although it’s more an accessibility feature for people with disabilities. The Information also sourced that this keyboard would be created by a company called Foxconn. Foxconn is a major manufacturing partner with Apple. Though, there wasn’t much information on how the coronavirus would affect this. Although, if any of this information is true, we can expect more than just updated internal components.
In conclusion
I’m not really sure how I feel about a trackpad on a keyboard for the new iPads. Apple’s iPad has been more of a tablet and e-reader to me than anything else. Though I do use it for some of my digital illustrations, I’m not sure how I feel about a keyboard with a trackpad.
I guess we’ll have to find out how this marketing technique will turn out when the new device launches.
