National Guard deployed in New Rochelle to control coronavirus

The coronavirus is spreading in the US at a perplexing rate. The number of cases rose to 1000 (significant surge in the number in the past three days), with the death toll at 29. The alarmed Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, called in the National Guard for the containment of the virus.

Washington had by far the most number of cases, the number of affected being 162 and the death toll at 22. It mostly seemed to have hit the elderly residents who were vulnerable to the virus. A new hotspot emerged when a substantial number of cases were realized. New Rochelle, a city located north of New York, has reported cases of 108 people affected with COVID-19. Also, several Wall Street employees are reported to test positive for coronavirus. Twenty-six lives have been lost in the whole of the USA. While most deaths pertained to Washington, New Jersey recently reported its first death. A 60-year-old man died in Bergen Country, New Jersey.

National Guard is now deployed in New Rochelle, a suburb in New York, to assist with the outbreak. All areas of gatherings, such as schools, churches, and synagogues, are going to be shut down for the next two weeks. A containment area of a 1-mile radius is to be set up by the national guard, providing amenities.

“We’re also going to use the National Guard in the containment area to deliver food to homes, to help with the cleaning of public spaces. We’re not containing people, it’s facilities,” Cuomo said. “It is a dramatic action, but it is the largest cluster in the country. This is literally a matter of life and death,” Cuomo added.

Meanwhile, at the White House, after a conservative conference that happened, not long ago, two members who attended the meeting later were tested positive for COVID-19. Suggestions were made to Donald Trump, who was present at the meeting to get himself tested.“I don’t think it’s a big deal. I would do it. I don’t feel any reason. I feel extremely good. I feel very good, but I guess it’s not a big deal to get tested and it’s something I would do,” Trump told reporters in Washington.
