PlayStation introduces DualSense: The next-generation PS5 controller

A new milestone has been reached with the PlayStation 5. An exciting new hardware Sony introducing in their next-gen console is called DualSense. This new controller brings a whole new sense to immersion. With the features of this new controller, along with Tempest 3D AudioTech in the PS5 console, we are in for a whole new experience.

With the DualShock 4 controller being launched with the PS4 back in 2013, PlayStation received a lot of positive feedback from it. Since PlayStation introduced forward features such as the share button, people became entranced by the hardware. Taking this into consideration, Sony wondered how they could get the same success with a new controller – thus prompting the creation of DualSense.

Sony decided to keep much of what made DualShock 4 so memorable and expanded on new functions and a sleek design. This created a new way to explore how to enhance the feeling of games. Immersion is the name of the game. With the adoption of haptic feedback, it gave Sony the edge of creating an immersive experience. What is haptic feedback? Well, it’s when your controller vibrates in different patterns and strengths. These vibrations create the feeling of you actually being there. Some examples of this are feeling the recoil when pulling the fire button in a war game, or even driving in the mud with an offroad vehicle.

Features of the controller

With haptic feedback, it provided an exciting new challenge for PlayStation to build off. Sony is bringing to the table a new feature called adaptive triggers. The challenge for this feature was how to get it to fit in the controller without making it bulky. What the design team came up with was a genius solution of changing the angle of the triggers. This also included some subtle changes to how the grips felt.

This also brought up ways to create a longer and more reliable battery life and to lessen the weight. Although there isn’t a share button on the DualSense this time around, they created a new button called the “create” button. With this new button, PlayStation is pioneering the ability to help players make new epic content. More details will roll out about this feature on the DualSense controller as the PlayStation 5 launch comes closer.

DualSense also installed a microphone into the controller. This helps players to easily chat with friends and fellow gamers without a mic on. This feature is more ideal for a quick conversation, so it is recommended to have a headset for longer chat sessions.

In conclusion

With these new features rolling out on this new console, it makes me excited to see what it will look like at launch. Having a new controller with a sleek design and a change of color gives it a fresh new start. The built-in microphone is a nice feature as well, enabling you to chat without a headset. Although it may get in the way of gameplay, we’ll see when it gets to that. What do you all think about this new controller? Is it a welcome change or not? Let us know in the comments!
