Apple releases a $400 iPhone SE: A cheaper iPhone 11 Pro

Lots to love. Less to spend. Apple has made it cheaper to enter the iOS ecosystem.

Yesterday, Apple introduced the new iPhone SE 2, the company’s cheapest phone in the iPhone lineup. With the phone starting at just $399, it makes it one of the lowest-priced phones in Apple’s history. So what’s included at this bargain phone? Well, let us take a look at the part next.

The iPhone SE 2’s new screen comes with improvements from its predecessor of six years ago. The new screen comes equipped with 650 nits of brightness compared to 500 from the original SE. Apart from this and the fact that it is in the form factor of an iPhone 8, there isn’t much of a difference in the screen from 6 years ago. The screen of this new device is about 30% smaller than the XR and comes in with an area of 9.44 square inches. Usually, the display panel of Apple’s devices is some of the most expensive parts. By making this area smaller, Apple is able to lower the iPhone’s price.

Next, let’s talk about SE 2’s camera. The rear-facing camera of this device specs in at 12 mp with an f/1.8 aperture. This is similar specs from the iPhone 7. The ‘selfie’ camera on this new device is also similar to the iPhone 7. Where the hardware is old, the new software should definitely help! A phone camera is surprisingly pricey, but by utilizing an older version, costs can be cut. This, in turn, adds to the cheap price point of this new iPhone.

Let’s go on to the chassis of the phone. The SE 2’s exterior is identical to the iPhone 8’s exterior. The dimensions are exactly the same across the board. This probably means that Apple used at least some of the iPhone 8’s body to house the parts of the SE 2. If they had gone smaller, internal parts would be more expensive. When you’re releasing a cost-effective phone, smaller parts incur higher costs.

Lastly, let’s talk about the processor Apple decided to use in this device. They took the A13 Bionic chip from the flagship iPhone 11 Pro. With this processor, you can expect the exact same performance you’d see on the Pro. With this in mind, you don’t want to expect to see a new iPhone SE in 2021.

Going off how long the SE was around, you can expect the same span with the new device before a new one is created. Also, with this processor, you can expect the device to work well with Apple’s other products. To be more precise, with the new Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade services,

In conclusion

Having a bargain iPhone with the same processing performance as the 11 Pro is amazing. If you haven’t owned an iPhone before, this is a good time to check it out. With it being in the realm of some of the lower-priced devices out there, it would be worth it. In my opinion, this is definitely the best time to try out the new product and contemplate if you might become the next big Apple fan!
