Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the first soccer player to hit $1 billion

The Juventus striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, becomes the first footballer and only the third sports star to become a billionaire. Tiger woods and Floyd Mayweather are the other two athletes to achieve this accomplishment.

According to the stats released by Forbes, Ronaldo earned nearly £85 million from his wages and endorsement deals. However, his annual wage earnings were short by £3.5 million, as he took a pay cut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is estimated that the former Real Madrid player has pocketed nearly £500 million throughout his career from his wage alone.

Ronaldo’s major source of income

Though wages are the major source of income for the Portuguese superstar, he earns a good amount of money through brand endorsement and his other ventures.

Ronaldo earns around £36 million every year in endorsements, the majority of which comes from Nike, with whom he has a lifetime contract. The forward also has his own company: CR7.

Ronaldo also makes a good deal of money from his social media activity. Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the most followed sports star on Facebook and Instagram. Cristiano makes around £1 million per post on Instagram, which is more than any person in the world. Ronaldo made more than £40 million through his Instagram posts.

Lionel Messi, the friendly rival of Cristiano Ronaldo, is also expected to cross the 1 billion mark next year. The Barcelona star made nearly £84 million in wages and endorsement deals, with brands like Pepsi and Addidas.
