The United States starting to see a possible second wave of COVID-19

The United States is already seeing an increase in cases lately. Therefore, experts warn the possibility of the second wave of COVID-19 across the country. Professor William Schaffner, who is an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University said to CNBC that the second wave has already begun. With easing the restrictions around the country, people are not following distancing measures and wearing masks he further added.

We see there is a huge rise in the number of cases in the country for the last days, which makes experts speculate the rise of the second wave. But another school of thought says that this disease might still belong to the first wave of the disease rather than the second wave. This is because experts say the virus needs to change its strain along with a downfall and a reappearance. So, at the moment we need better clarity at this aspect of the disease.

A second lockdown?

Although the number of cases is growing day by day, Schaffner says the idea of a second shut down is off the tables for now. He also said people from all walks of life should work in a collaborative way to support essential preventive measures. While mass gatherings are happening around the country, it is definitely a worrying sign with the number of cases the country has faced.

If we follow the essential precautions correctly, the country can tackle the disease in an effective way. But if we do the opposite, we may be putting stress on the medical care system, Schaffner warns. While we are witnessing countries like China putting a ban last week on the infectious market, we hope not to get any future waves of the disease.
