Long gone will be the days where your parents, wives, and friends will stop cursing you for playing games. A new therapy approved by the FDA is used to treat ADHD children using video games. Yes, you have heard it right. This therapy is based on playing games and is shown to improve the disorder in children. The game, going by the name EndeavorRx, was approved on Monday and will be prescribed by physicians to treat children between 8 and 12 years of age with the disorder. In addition to this, other therapies will also be combined, like clinician directed therapy, medications, and other educational activities, to improve the condition.
This therapy is first of its kind to be authorized by the FDA to treat any disorder. The approval comes after a review of five studies from around 600 children. However, the experts also noticed headache, dizziness, emotional reaction, and aggression, during playing games as a side effect but said no serious effects we’re noticed. The children are allowed 30-minute gameplay for a period of five days a week on a total of the 30-day life cycle. The game offers an alternative option to treat this disorder instead of drugs, which is a growing field of digital therapeutics and digital therapy.
ADHD is a developmental disorder that affects children predominantly and lets till their adulthood. Globally, over 4 million children get affected due to this disease. ADHD causes difficulty in focusing attention and other behavioral problems. With conventional therapies, children will eventually improve and will be able to focus properly. But with novel therapies like these, experts speculate that this improvement can be better and faster. If everything goes on well, we can soon see more such therapies against various diseases in the future.
