Eddie Hearn, the English sports promoter, said that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have agreed to financial terms for two matches between them. These matches, once finalized, will take place in 2021. He predicts that both boxers can pocket close to £100m from these matches. The world title bout between these behemoth boxers will be the biggest British fight ever. However, he laughed off at the claims that their one match would cost £49.95 on pay-per-view. He doesn’t think that Sky Sports will go over £29.95 for Joshua-Fury match.
Anthony Joshua won back his WBA, IBF, and WBO title from Andy Ruiz Jr. in December 2019. On the other hand, Fury beat Deontay Wilder for the WBC championship in February this year. However, both the fighters have to overcome their individual challenges before they lock horn against each other in 2021. Joshua is set to fight Kubrat Pulev while Tyson Fury is scheduled for a fight against Bronze Bomber.
Eddie Hearn is skeptical that this fight will be more expensive than a normal boxing match on Sky Sports. He prefers the relationship with customers and fans of prime importance than the price for the bout. Moreover, he yearns for their respect, trust and longevity. He feels maybe the fighters want it to be £49.95 but don’t think it should be anywhere near it. However, he said he doesn’t get to decide the pay-per-view prices.
Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter thinks that both Joshua and Anthony could earn a minimum between £47m-£55m from each fight. Tyson Fury pocketed over £30m from his fight against Deontay Wilder as per Bob Arum, his co-promoter. The fight between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz made Joshua richer by £40m-£60m last December. It is too early to predict the exact earnings from their title bout. It is, however, believed that it can certainly break £100m mark and becomes most lucrative bout in United Kingdom.
