WWE SummerSlam will take place on 23rd August 2020 at WWE performance center. TD Garden at Boston, Massachusetts, would have originally hosted this event. However, the plans changed to host it at the performance center due to Covid-19. Moreover, WWE tore up the plans which were in place months ago according to a tweet sent out by WrestleVotes.
WWE Hall of Famer Edge suffered a torn tricep during his match versus Randy Orton at WWE Backlash. Hence, he will be out of action due to which their rivalry has been kept on hold. This led to a change in plans as Randy Orton might be next in line to challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE championship. While Edge and Randy Orton can have their third match either at Royal Rumble 2021 or WrestleMania 37. Currently, Randy Orton will be taking on The Big Show at Extreme Rules in an unsanctioned match. It will be a huge surprise if Orton loses this match on his way to SummerSlam 2020.
SummerSlam is one of the four major pay-per-views of WWE. WWE tends to bring in major superstar at such events. Earlier plans called for Brock Lesnar to challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE championship. However, this is the second major match that has been scrapped. WWE does not want to waste Brock Lesnar’s appearance without fans in the arena. Brock Lesnar last wrestled at WrestleMania 36 in a losing effort against Drew Mcintyre. SummerSlam would have been an ideal event for his rematch against the Scottish Psychopath.
Hence, WWE fans will not be able to see rated-R superstar Edge and Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam this year. Will this affect viewership of WWE SummerSlam 2020, let us know in the comment section.
