American pop singer Taylor Swift takes over the Billboard charts with her fresh alternative/indie album, Folklore, that came as a surprise to her fans across the globe. Taylor dropped her eighth studio album on 24th July without any prior promotion, and it went on to break several chart records within the first week of the sale.
Folklore is the product of Taylor’s collaboration with The National’s guitarist Aaron Dessner, and it has certainly earned her the best reviews of her career with an average score of 89% on Metacritic.
Swift became the only artist to ever debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 album charts at the same time when her single Cardigan hit number one on Monday. According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, the album sold 846,000 equivalent albums within a week of its release, making it the best-selling record of the year in the US.
On Spotify, Folklore achieved 80.6 million streams in a single day, the highest-ever tally for a female artist, and with 289.85 million on-demand streams of its songs, Folklore also marks the largest streaming week for an album by a female act this year.
Folklore showcases Swift’s biggest strength, which is her exquisite storytelling talent. This album features songs that are rich with vivid details and are quite cinematic, which makes this album a perfect fit for the background score of a modern-day indie romantic movie.
Fans and critics hold this album as a piece of art and Taylor Swift’s best to date.
