Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny hospitalized after being allegedly ‘poisoned’

The 44-year old Putin critic (Alexey Navalny) had started feeling unwell while on a flight from Tomsk, a city in Siberia to Moscow. The flight had to make an emergency landing at Omsk to provide medical support. A clip revealing an unconscious man being placed on a stretcher was shared on various platforms of social media.

Navalny is currently on a ventilator but in stable condition and is admitted to the intensive care unit at Omsk Hospital. Kira Yarmysh, Navalny’s spokesperson, tweeted that he only had a black tea at an airport cafe before takeoff and suggested that a toxin was added to it. “Doctors say the poison was quickly absorbed through the hot liquid,” she said.

Events leading to health deterioration

“He said that he was not feeling well and asked me for a napkin; he had perspiration. He asked me to talk to him because he wanted to concentrate on the sound of the voice. I talked to him, after which a trolley with water came up to us. I asked if water would help him; he said no. Then he went to the toilet, after which he lost consciousness.” Yarmysh said, giving an account of Navalny’s behavior before falling unconscious.

Another passenger posted on social media, “At the start of the flight he went to the toilet and didn’t come back. He started feeling really sick. They struggled to bring him round and he was screaming in pain.”

Suggests involvement of Russian Authorities?

This is not the first time the strong-worded politician has allegedly been poisoned. “There is no doubt that Navalny was poisoned because of his political stance and activity,” tweeted Vyacheslav Gimadi. Navalny is a key figure in the pro-Putin campaign and has served many prison terms

Last year he had a severe allergic reaction due to suspected poisoning while he was in police custody. He revealed that he had never suffered from any allergies and blamed the Russian authorities.

The Kremlin has chosen to remain silent on the accusations pointed towards them.
