The upcoming indie director Robert Eggers who made The Lighthouse and The VVitch, is making a 10th-century Viking epic. The man’s known for his other two movies being period pieces. And this movie is no different, except the magnitude of the production. This might be the movie that makes him mainstream.
The movie has cast a couple of the best actors out there: Alexander and Bill Skarsgård (probably for their nordic roots), Nicole Kidman, and two others who have worked with Eggers before: Anya Taylor-Joy from The VVitch and Willem Dafoe from The Lighthouse. More importantly, this is his first time dealing with a great bunch of actors. His last movies only focused on a select few characters stranded in an isolated place.
The Icelandic singer who played the lead in Lars Von Tier’s musical Dancer in the Dark, Björk, will also be joining the cast. She’ll be reportedly starring in the role called the Slav Witch
The movie was supposed to begin productions way early but had to close just a week before shooting. On the other hand, this dormancy wasn’t too bad news for his crew. The movie is production demanding, so his crew started working on making props for the movie: armors and prosthetics. And he’s been working on the storyboarding with his Academy nominated cinematographer Jarin Blaschke.
Focus Features will distribute the movie domestically and Universal Pictures internationally. However, A24, the ‘indie production company’, primarily distributed his earlier films. This film might be more accessible to the audience since the scale of the project is significantly larger.
