IPL: BCCI fought hard to get the 13th edition of IPL going as it found COVID19, security issues in between them, and proper conducting of the tournament. BCCI then decided to conduct the tournament in the desert country UAE considering the flexible quarantine conditions present there. “This brings the game to skill level,” quoted RCB skipper Kohli as he opined that there would be no hone advantage for any team as all teams are going to play in all the stadiums.
Teams are missing their key players ahead of the tournament
Although BCCI has successfully crossed all the hurdles, a few teams are finding it hard to maintain the balance of their teams as players are opting out of the tournament due to various reasons. Teams like MI, CSK, KKR, DC, and RR are all facing the issue as they have at least one player missing the tournament.
- Harbhajan Singh(CSK)
Bhajji initially skipped the training camp conducted by CSK and informed the management that he would join the team a bit late in UAE. Later, he came up with ‘Personal Reasons,’ which were not disclosed, to miss out on the tournament.
- Suresh Raina(CSK)
Dhoni’s team received a double blow as their senior batsman Raina decided to fly back home after he is informed that his family is in trouble. Rumors about Malan replacing Raina in the squad are being circulated in Social media, but there is no official announcement yet about the replacement.
- Harry Gurney(KKR)
Gurney is going to miss the 13th edition of the IPL as he is suffering from a shoulder injury and is expected to miss the whole tournament. This might affect KKR plans as they have no proper replacement for Gurney in their squad.
- Ben Stokes(RR)
Stokes said that he might miss the first half of the tournament as he has to be by his father, who is getting treated for cancer. But only time has the answer if he plays the latter half of the tournament or nor as he has to deal with his mental health as well.
- Jason Roy(DC)
Roy got injured during the series vs. Pak and had to miss out on the tournament. DC has named Daniel Sams as a replacement for Roy.
- Kane Richardson(RCB)
Zampa(Aus) replaced Richardson at the RCB squad as Richardson wanted to witness the birth of his first child.
- Lasith Malinga(MI)
Malinga withdrew his name from the tournament citing Personal Reasons, and the management backed the Yorker King’s decision. MI announced Australian pacer Pattinson as a replacement for Sri Lankan Quickie.
- Chris Woakes(DC)
Woakes preferred his pregnant wife over the IPL and decided to skip the tournament. Nortje is set to replace Woakes at Delhi Capitals.
