NASA to announce exciting discovery about Moon

On October 26, at 12 PM EDT NASA will announce an exciting discovery about Moon from the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). A Livestream of the event is expected to be available on NASA’s website.

SOFIA, a modified 747 that flies high in the atmosphere, is the world’s largest airborne observatory. It carries a 9-foot telescope that provides a clear view of the universe and objects in our solar system. SOFIA observes in infrared wavelengths and can detect phenomena impossible to see with visible light.

Under the Artemis program, NASA plans to send the first woman and the next man to the lunar surface in 2024, and a human mission to Mars as early as 2030.

This discovery helps in understanding the science of the Moon, which in turn will help in piecing together the broader history of the inner solar system.
