Penultimate league game, and we still have no clue as to which three teams will join Mumbai Indians in the playoffs. A total of 5 teams are still in contention for a playoff spot. This game is a virtual quarter-final. The winner goes to the number two position and will play MI in qualifier 1.
Meanwhile, KKR would expect either of both teams to win by a considerable margin so that they can still have their hopes up. SRH will look to win their games and enter playoffs in tomorrow’s game.
Both the teams were desperate for a win and made quite a few changes to their playing 11. DC skipper Iyer won the toss and elected to field first.
Devdutt Padikkal and Philippe gave RCB a decent start but were not aggressive enough; they scored 25 runs in the first four overs before Rabada dismissed Philippe on his first ball. They ended powerplay with a score of 40/1. Even after that, they scored at a decent pace but not quick enough. after ten overs, they were 60/1. Kohli tried up the scoring rate but was dismissed in the 13th over. Padikkal completed his 50 in the 15th over of 40 balls and then immediately dot out.
A few hits from ABD and Dube made sure that they reached a decent total of 152/7.
DC will need to score at least 134 runs if they lose today to keep their NRR ahead of KKR.
RCB will need DC to bat at least 17.3 overs if they lose today to keep their NRR ahead of KKR.
Even though DC lost Shaw early, they got a solid start. They ended the powerplay with a score of 53/1. Rahane and Dhawan got going and looked to chase the total easily, but RCB needed to keep the chase going until 17.3 overs to qualify. Both of them played well and got to their half-centuries.
RCB bowled well and made sure they contained the DC to at least that mark and made sure they qualified. But in the end, the match got a bit interesting too as they needed 14 of the last two, but the game ended in the penultimate over itself.
This result meant both these teams qualify. If SRH wins tomorrow, they qualify, and if they don’t, KKR goes through.
