Sirtfood diet has been the talk since the appearance of the slimmed-down Adele in Saturday Night Live. Following this Sirtfood diet has been one of the trending searches on the internet. Therefore, it is need of the hour to explore this Sirtfood diet.
It all started way back in 2016 when two UK nutritionists brought this type of diet to light. The main idea surrounds the group of proteins called Sirtuins. These proteins are involved in the regulation of metabolism, inflammation, and aging and are accelerated by eating polyphenols and phytonutrients. Such acceleration will end up burning large amounts of fat in our body, leading to significant weight loss. Some such foods that can help are such loss include Red wine, Dark Chocolate with 85 percent to more cocoa, soybean, apples, green tea, onions, kale, blueberries, strawberries, etc.
The diet regime and drawbacks
The diet regime involves two phases that range over a period of three weeks.
- During the first three days, the total energy intake is restricted to 1000 calories per day. This is brought about by consuming Sirtfood green juice that contains kale, celery, rocket, parsley, matcha green tea, and lemon juice. In addition, one can also consume a Sirtfood meal with chicken and kale curry.
- During the days four to seven, one can have 2-3 juices per day with one or two Sirtfood meals with a total calorie intake of 1,500 calories per day.
- This is followed by the second phase, where the total calorie intake is restricted to around 1,500 – 1,800 calories per day with three meals, one juice, and some Sirtfood snacks. After this, the individual is recommended to have a balanced diet with green juices and Sirtfood diets.
This diet may help in rapid loss and may draw so many people towards it. The idea of eating fresh juices and vegetables the help us gain necessary vitamins, minerals, and fibers that help the body function in harmony is definitely an added advantage. This diet also eliminates junk food habits that harm our bodies.
However, this diet also comes with some drawbacks attached. The diet is not recommended for all people, especially those having underlying health conditions. This weight loss may also result in loss of body water and glycogen along with the body fat reserves. Rapid weight loss can also induce gall stones and the absence of menstrual periods in women.
Therefore, it is highly recommended for all individuals to consult a nearby dietician or a physician or a nutritionist before undertaking such diets and not following what is blindly posted on the internet.
Additionally, some of the European vegetables mentioned in this diet are not available worldwide and, therefore, may require deep pockets.
There is no clear cut evidence that Sirtfood diets may completely work in humans on weight loss. Although anecdotal reports like that from people like Adele are obtained, we need a broader picture to solve many questions that are surrounding this diet.
