Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could ‘stop being royal’ after Queen’s 12-month review

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might lose their HRH titles after the Queen gives her 12-month review on their standing i.e. their exit from the Royal Family

According to Royal expert Robert Lacy “There are two titles involved, there is the HRH status and then there is the actual title of Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Obviously, if the review in March concludes they can’t stay working royals, then it’s quite likely they would lose or forfeit their HRH styles. They have already put it into suspension.”

He also told Express UK “The way it is presented at the moment is that they are HRH but they choose not to use it, it doesn’t say that they are banned from using it. If this develops in the future, I think it will be presented in the same way – they choose not to be royals anymore. That doesn’t mean they give up their titles.”

He concluded by saying, “The Queen has bestowed them these titles. The world is full of people with British titles and they are free to do what they like. Just like any other aristocrat, their title is with them for life, they may choose not to use it because for most of the world Harry and Meghan are the star names which commands the fascination of people all over the world.”

Meghan and Harry had announced in January 2020 about their intention to take a step back as senior royals.

They had suggested a half-in, half-out solution. That would’ve allowed them to continue carrying out royal duties and represent the Queen during visits and tours abroad. In addition to this, they also would be eligible to become financially independent and live outside of the UK.

Following a meeting between the three royals and Prince Harry at Sandringham, the Sussexes decided to step down as senior royals, relinquish the use of their HRH styles as well as of the word royal in their first brand, Sussex Royal. In addition to that, they would no longer be carrying out royal duties.

In turn, they were permitted to retain their patronages, become financially independent, and live abroad with their son Archie Harrison.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially left the Royal Family in March, they have made various alterations to their lives.

From living in Vancouver Island to Beverly Hills Estate, they have now moved into their new home in Montecito, Santa Barbara this July.

The couple has been vocal on voting rights ahead of the US election over the summer, the Black Lives Matter movement and support to charities amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It was revealed in September, that they have struck a deal with Netflix. The deal will see them become TV producers for the streaming platform.

Meghan and Harry have also been working on their new foundation, Archewell. The website for the same was launched this October. It will be focusing on creating more humane and understanding communities both online and in real life.
