Cricket: Injuries are giving a tough competition to Australia in dominating India in the ongoing Test Series. As much as we saw Australia’s dominance in the first test, injuries have taken the lead from there.
Scenes before the first test
It all started with Ishant being unavailable to the Test Series as his fitness levels are not up to the mark. With Virat going to leave the camp after the first test to live his paternity moments, India badly needed to perform well in the first test to gain the momentum going further into the series. Not only India missed Kohli in the second test but also Shami as he broke his forearm trying to defend a sharp bouncer.
Three more players added to the injury list
India won the second test comfortably with the help of all-round performance. Australia didn’t trouble them much in the second test at Melbourne, but injuries didn’t miss the job. While Umesh was ruled out the series due to a calf injury, KL had to miss the last two tests as he suffered an injury against his wrist at nets. With India losing half-a-dozen of key players from their squad, this team is already looking like a secondary Indian Team.
Key all-rounder Jadeja to miss the fourth test
Adding insult to the injury, Jadeja got hit on his thumb during the third test match and didn’t take the field during 3rd innings. He is also ruled out of the series, but his co-spinner Ashwin told Press that Jadeja might bat if India needs with the aid of injections. Not to mention that Pant had also suffered a minor elbow injury; this Indian team has to work very hard against their fitness levels if they want to put a cap on the ever-growing injury list.
List of unavailable players for Team India: Rohit Sharma(first two tests), Virat Kohli(last three tests – due to paternity leave), KL Rahul, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvaneswar Kumar
With Prithvi Shaw not in great form and Mayank working hard on technical aspects of his batting, the remainder of the team has to be cautious against injuries and take up the additional responsibility of heading the team in the right direction.
