A new comedy-drama featuring a 15-year-old daughter and her mother named Ginny and Georgia aired on Netflix in late February 2021 features Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey in the main leads.
Taylor Swift tweeted to criticize the joke in the finale of the show, which she termed as a “lazy, deeply sexist joke.” In that scene, Georgia asked her daughter Ginny about the breakup with her boyfriend, and she replies saying ” What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”
Swifties, which are fans of Swift, made sure that they were unhappy with the show, and some even called for a boycott of the series. On 1st March 2021, Swift addressed it by tweeting: “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called, and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back.”
Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY. Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you ? Happy Women’s History Month I guess pic.twitter.com/2X0jEOXIWp— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) March 1, 2021
Netflix has not commented or addressed this situation yet, nor has any cast members of Ginny and Georgia.
