In a bold move to promote the China-produced vaccines, Foreigners visiting the mainland for work will have their visa paperwork drastically reduced and fast-tracked, beginning Monday, March 15. The announcement came on Friday and signals China’s attempt to begin the normalizing process for outside business and, ultimately, tourist travel. At this point, the reduced paperwork and ability to skip the COVID entry test which applies to entrants originating in Hong Kong.
China finds itself in a difficult position as it wishes to promote its domestically developed vaccines. Its reluctance to share data means that most countries balk at purchasing their vaccines. The new rules apply to those seeking entry on humanitarian grounds as well.
To date, China’s vaccines have found their greatest acceptance in Africa and South America. However, a recent deal with the IOC to supply vaccines for the athletes competing at the Tokyo Olympics in July could prove to be a good wedge into the global market.
