Myanmar, a South-East Asian nation, famously known for its ancient temples and the dominance of Burmese culture, is struggling to revive democracy and is facing one of the most devastating political crises, which is the takeover by the military coup. It’s not something new if one analyses the past history of Myanmar, but this has definitely heralded new challenges for various countries like China, the United States of America, Russia, and India. And this has attracted sanctions from the US and Russia has reverted this by issuing a warning of a “full-scale civil conflict“ ushering in the country.
The people of Myanmar have responded to this coup by protesting against the very nature of this military rule and thus, demanding the full restoration of the democracy and also, demanding the junta to step back. The country’s economy was already dwindling due to the Problems Caused by the Covid-19, and this political upheaval; has taken a huge toll on people’s life. And, so far there is little optimism regarding the power-sharing between the junta and the democratically elected government led by Aung San Suu Kyi, who is currently placed under house arrest due to various mala fide claims by the military.
Thus, it is required that democracy is restored as it can help in granting legitimacy to the people’s aspirations, and it would also mean other countries associated with Myanmar would also get the required interest.
