Caroline Jurie gives up her “Mrs. World” title after arrest

Caroline Jurie, the winner of Mrs. World 2020, dropped her title, days after a blow of shock emerged at the night of the grand finale of Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021, where Mrs. Jurie seized the crown of Pushpika De Silva, the pageant winner, allegedly causing injuries on her head.

“I am now ready to hand over the crown,” Jurie stated in an Instagram video on Friday after she was detained on being accused by Mrs. De Silva for the wrongdoings. The former Mrs. World removed the crown off De Silva’s head and placed it on the runner-up on account of De Silva being a divorcee, which was at odds with the rules and regulations of the pageant.

Mrs. Jurie, in her Instagram video, stated her concern regarding the controversial incident on Friday. “I have no personal anger with anyone. I have no agenda. To me, all contestants at the Mrs. Sri Lanka final were special. I only wanted a fair stage and an equal opportunity for all contestants so that they could give their best.” She also expressed her firm support regarding the enforcement of the “rules and regulations” of the pageant. “As I see it, the purpose of Mrs. World is to celebrate all women who are married and still strive to conquer their dreams, along with the commitments and responsibilities a married woman strives to fulfill,” Jurie stated.

According to Fox News, Mrs. De Silva, winner of Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021, in a Facebook post, claimed that she is separated but not divorced and the crown was “insult fully taken from her.”

Ajith Rohana, a police spokesman, mentioned that he had arrested Jurie and Chula Padmendra on charges of “simple hut and criminal force,” who are now released on bail. According to Fox News, the two women have been ordered to be present in court on April 19.
