Chennai: PBKS took on SRH in an encounter played between the bottom two teams of the table. While PBKS had only one win from three matches, SRH was yet to open their account this season. SRH, desperate for a win, entered the contest with as many as three changes where Kane, Jadhav, and Kaul replaced Mujeeb, Samad, and Manish, respectively. Samad was rested as he pulled his hamstring. Henriques and Allen got their first chance for PBKS this season. SRH bowling attack stole the show by dismissing Punjab for 120 runs in 19.4 overs before Warner(37), Bairstow(63), and Williamson(16) helped SRH register their first victory of the season.
PBKS humbled by SRH bowling attack
Punjab won the toss and chose to bat first, following the trend at Chepauk. But unlike previous matches, Punjab didn’t get off to flying colors as PBKS’s openers were troubled by SRH bowlers. Rashid has put down Mayank at the deep mid-wicket in the very first over off Abhishek Sharma. Bhuvi dismissed Rahul for four runs, while Pooran had to depart without facing a single delivery as Warner caught him short of his crease with a direct hit.

Khaleel(3/21) broke the back of Punjab with three crucial wickets while Rashid(1/17) bowled economically. He also dismissed Gayle by trapping him in front of the wicket for just 15 runs. Abhishek Sharma didn’t let Punjab’s middle-order free their arms as he dismissed Hooda and Henriques in his successive overs. Bhuvi registered 1/16 in his three overs. Overall, Punjab was all-out for 120 runs in 19.4 overs.
Warner, Bairstow drive the innings with authority
Chasing a modest total of 120, SRH batted with caution mixed with aggression. They knew blind hitting leads to downfall and too many dot balls build the pressure. With this knowledge, SRH’s openers carefully picked their shots and punished bad balls with no second thought. None of Rahul’s bowling changes helped their cause. Mis-fields, drop catches added insult to the assault.

After stitching a 50+ stand, Allen dismissed Warner. But Williamson-Bairstow pair didn’t hand PBKS any chance to make a comeback into the match. Bairstow completed his half-century in the 18th over with a four-off Hooda. The Williamson-Bairstow pair helped SRH chase the total in 18.4 overs and register a 9-wicket victory against PBKS.
