One of the richest couples in the world, Bill and Melinda Gates, announced their divorce in a brief statement on Twitter.
The statement read: “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.”
The co-chairs and trustees of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation also asked for privacy in this time while they “navigate this new life.”
Finance
The couple, who share almost $150 billion between them, have made no public statement on their financing decisions.
It is thought they will continue their commitment to philanthropy through the Foundation.
Unlike Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Scott’s divorce, the financing will be much harder to divvy out since Scott was awarded $35.6 billion in Bezos’ Amazon stock.
Since Bill’s wealth is made up of so many factors, with less than 20% being Microsoft shares, and most of it being through the Foundation, it will prove more complex to finance their divorce.
