The deadly coronavirus may never go away but it is possible to live normally with it in our midst. As countries around the world are under stringent lockdown measures, we certainly see a breakthrough in countries like Singapore. Besides, Singapore has revealed its plan to transition to a New Normal.
The plans drawn up by the three leading ministers of a multi- ministry task force on Coronavirus said that they have vaccinated enough people. Also, this drastic pandemic could be managed like other endemic diseases as the common flu, foot and mouth disease, chickenpox, and change the way the country reports its daily Covid updates. Monitory outcomes such as the requirement of hospitalization or intensive care, as in the same way seasonal flu outbreaks are monitored.
The satiable point is that it is possible to live normally with it in our midst. Singapore has taken steps to curb avoid Covid-19 to become endemic and has ramped up its vaccination force amid the battle to bring down the spike in cases. The city-state is on track to hit its goal of vaccinating two-thirds of the population with at least one dose by early July and wants to fully vaccinate two-thirds by 9 August.
Moreover, testing and surveillance will no longer be a tool for quarantining people but will be used for screening those who want to enter malls, office buildings, schools. Gradually, safe management programs might commence and large gatherings would be allowed. Eventually, travel would be made quarantine-free to countries that have the pandemic under control. Also, travelers would be exempted upon showing a negative test result on arrival.
“With vaccination, testing, treatment, and social responsibility, it may mean in the near future, when someone gets Covid-19, our response can be very different from now”, the ministers said.
Singapore’s road map could be a model for other countries of the world to follow.
